Since returning to southport in november, ive been keen to get back into the pole fishing that ive missed so much while in wales.
ive started taking the mrs (sue) to get her acquainted with fishing the power top on the pole, as shes always beat me when we fish for silvers or small carp.
we decided on a small private farm pond to start off, where i knew there was a good head of small carp and the occasional big bonus fish
as you can see ..... she had no trouble getting the small carp
but what followed was truly magical....for her and me both a 3lb roach
in 35 years of coarse fishing ive never seen a roach as big as this
so well and truly beaten and still never hearing the last of it...we decided on an overnight stop at charity farm in wrightington...here we would have 2 day sessions and camp overnight between sessions.
this would be the big time for sue, whos biggest fish on the pole was the roach.
i set her up in the margin to my left while fishing on the same peg in case she hooked anything she couldnt handle.......
her first fish ;
an 8lb common
her second fish
a 6lb common, i hadnt had a bite by this time, and was seriously thinking it was deffo something to do with the hormones, despite us using the same baits on the same peg i couldnt catch
she began to add insult to injury
by landing one after another
and they were getting bigger...luckily someone up there felt sorry for me and allowed me to hook a nice fish
happy days....at least i hadnt blanked...but lost 3 more fish in 3 drops
A night was called and victory conceded.......revenge was to follow the next day....i hoped
but sue had different ideas and was off the mark first
i managed a small face saver
and another
but all i did was encourage sue to rub my nose in it
if i had posted all the fish that she caught id be making a show of myself, im embarrassed enough already, and im not bitter........
but i dont think i can teach her jack sh*t about the power pole, in fact she could probably teach me
theres one thing tho for certain.......its deffo the hormones
