cable bay (the return)

Postby alf - big al » Wed Aug 19, 2009 4:19 pm

after the earlier in the week attempt at cable bay, i returned with a jacket  and reinforcements in the shape of daz, we couldnt set up in the corner by the big rock as there were loads of novices chucking feathers   i dont begrudge them anything.....but they always seem to be in the best ray spots fishing for sodding mackeral,
we sat at the top of the hill having a breather before attempting the hill to the next available spot, couldnt help but laugh at the 3 guys underneath us who were floatfishing with still feathers   we eventually scaled the hill and down the rockface setting up about 2 hours before high tide
Image
daz got the slightly better spot landwise, but i think we were just grateful to have got a spot, it was a lovely warm afternoon but a bit dull with a sw breeze
Image
we set up a big pulley pennel each and a 2 hook flapper with small baits bait on my pulley was sandeel and squid wraps....daz opted for whole sandeel
Image
Image
we then settled in for a few hours with high hopes of a ray or two
daz was first to get a bite.....and brought a huss in over 4 and a half pounds
Image
it was about 20 mins later when i had a good knock resulting in another huss , followed shortly after by a slightly bigger one (ill post the pics when daz returns with his camera)
as the tide turned the fishing died a death, and we decided to move down on to the straits for a couple of hours before heading back to towyn
Image
we arrived at the menai bridge to find a few lads fishing feathers  so we headed up into town for some fish and chips then strolled back, as we set up the others left..they had a few small pollack on the feathers but nowt else, the tide was about 3 hours down by now, so i p*ssed myself laughing when one of the blokes said they had been waiting for the tide to come in but nothing had happened
Image
we set up just a 2 hook flapper each, daz went on the lug i went on the sandeel sections
Image
Image
daz was first in again ...as soon as his bait hit the bottom
Image
a small wrasse followed by a few bigger ones, i took just a couple of small dogfish.
very enjoyable day.....no rays ....but a few fish and a good laugh

It has always been my private conviction that any man who pits his intelligence against a fish and loses has it coming.

I thought it could be a good method for small pollock and stuff close in. If you used a large float and some tiny hokkai shrimps of and let the swells move them up and down. :?:
