pensarn ......enough said

Postby alf - big al » Tue May 05, 2009 11:36 pm

took the leisurely 5 minute drive to pensarn beach for a try at high water. the wind was still blowing a hooley along the shore from left to right, so i headed for the shelter of the rocks on the far end of the beach facing castle cove caravan site
Image
apart from the wind ..conditions were looking perfect
there was a nice bit of chop on the sea, and a couple of blokes already fishing the rocks to my left, i got set up the usual suspects, the big pulley pennel and a 2 hook flapper, alternating baits crab lug squid sandeel and mackeral
Image
i arrived a couple of hours before high water and the tide was already a good way in
Image
i went for a quick chat with the lads on the rocks to discover they had been fishing from low water and had only a rockling between them
i knew from that moment it was going to be tough but at least the sun showed its face....even if it was only to set

i persevered picking football size chunks of weed off the line every time i reeled in, i really dont know where i got the patience from, but i stuck it out for 3 hours before conceding defeat (again)
i passed 4 other blokes on the way home who were fishing...all had blanked and were suffering the same weed and wind conditions as myself, not that it makes you feel any better, but at least i was only 5 mins from home 2 of these lads were from kirkby.
think ill give it a few days before i venture out again, the wind has picked up even more tonight.

Nice fish, I have heard of a couple of bass coming from there in the last week or so, i must get up there and have a go myself, i don't live far from there but never fished there, I normally go over the ffrith in prestatyn, hardly ever catch anything but its only over the road from my house so its easier than driving somewhere else when i don't have much time...
