The Cat and the Alt...

Postby prawnster » Sun Mar 01, 2009 9:59 pm

After much research in our quest for a Flounder for the species hunt the Alt sounded like our best bet. The 3 Legged Cat managed to arm us with some fresh black and one of Sainbury's finest mackerel (with a pack of frozen black for backup).

Off we set, full of anticipation having read reports of mega bags of plump Flounder and clutching some scribbled directions.

Arrived at the venue about an hour before high... as Eddie has mentioned - chocker block, anglers as far as the eye could see. Fortunately for us, the first person we reached was Moan it in Mid off C&C, had a little chat and he put us right about where and how to fish it.

The cat was extremely organised today, 2 rods set up in moments, her well-practiced multi purpose knot securing 2 hook flappers to the main line and ready to go with no input at all from me :D

I, on the other hand, was having one of those days where I was pissing myself of with the amount of faffing about and general fumbling around... first cast, crack off - elected not to even attempt to set up the second rod and was happy just to be in the water with my second rig.

In the meantime, what was looking like a lovely spring day at the start of the session turned into a very chilly affair, the biting north westerly was really cutting through my inadeqauate layers of clothing.

High water came and went with very little to talk about other than Moan it in Mid catching a plump little rockling.

We were starting to feel a little disheartened although Big Kevs venue tips at the back of my mind were reminding me that it does fish well on the ebb, then bang on cue, our neighbour pulled in a nice little flounder and our confidence shot up.

Sure enough, as the tide receded back into the channel, the Cats rod bounced in the rest and she pulled in her first ever Flounder, a little chap in the half pound bracket.

Duly unhooked and returned, it wasn't long before I managed to snare myself a decent one, pushing the scales to 1lb 2oz... mission accomplished

Here's the state of the ebb tide when we started to catch

1lb 2oz also

Those who have been paying attention will have noticed that I was runner up in todays little competition - beaten again

Well the Prawnster has done a great report. I should congratulate us both on our catch and the excellent pics.

I was going to practice putting a rig together myself yesterday, but a curry and the accompanying bottle of wine put pay to that. Thank heavens for Grays Shore Range

Can I say that I was mightily impressed that I have shot to fame this week and was recognised within minutes of arriving.............. :D lol :D .........yeah yeah I know, it's 'cos I'm a girl. Do 'ya reckon me and the Prawnster are becoming almost as well known as Posh 'n' Becks in the fishing world? Yes I really am a girl who can take the p**s out of herself. :D

Big Kev will be pleased to know that I ran away from this catch too. Didn't like the squidgy bits of the fish when trying to unhook it.

Great to be able to take them home for tea!
