mark x

Postby luckypaul » Fri Jan 30, 2009 2:07 am

me and jaygo met up about 4.30 at the mark and walked through to the clock tower !!!!!!! my god it was muddy after setting up it was really windy made the going really hard jaygo lost a few rigs then we saw why when tide was at its lowest it looked like the surface of the moon loads of bites and few decent fish lost to the rocks after a while disheartened we decided to walk back further towards the mark and fish last hour or so prawnster and nick walked further on past the the tower and fished there.
after few Min's on prawn and lug jaygo got some bites and his first showed up not long after that he had a second codling
despite loads of knocks i drew a blank and just before 10 we packed up.
the other lads walked up and nick produced this fine fella fish for supper and not one invite, not a fruitful night but the company was good and all in all a pleasant few hours , cant win em all eh, will take small bag next time my box on wheels weighed twice as much with all the mud lol

at last a fish
and a second
who's the daddy

lost two good fish last night :( :( :( both due to the hooklenths rubbing on the many rocks that are up by the clocktower, gutted to feel the solid thump of a good fish only for it to come of two seconds later.......

so the motto of the story is bring some 40lb hooklenths next time :( :( once again the mersey seems to be rammed with small cod as there attacking the bait every time it goes in ....i just hope that there will be a bit of a run of cod this month (as it seems at least a few are making an appearance)

Thanks for putting Nicks fish pic up Paul... another schoolboy error on my part forgetting my camera (again)

Just to add to your report, bites from the off when we arrived just past the clock tower, I had a couple of little coddos and Nick had one little coddo and a decent dab, when the tide dropped - same "moonscape" as where you and Jay were fishing so we moved even further along to some cleaner gound over low water. The icy south easterly was really cutting through as we were quite exposed on top of the wall and bites were difficult to detect there, so as soon as the water covered the rocks again we moved back nearer to the tower and relative shelter.

Instant bites as soon as we cast in again but very short lived, that's when Nick had the nice cod - 4 1/4lb  - it was as if a run of fish came through in the space of 15 minutes with the flood and then it all went quiet when they'd gone past :? . Within an hour and half after low it was unfishable because of the pull so we packed up and trudged back through the mud... Well I trudged, Nick was obviously skipping over the top having bagged his first cod of 2009.

Scores on the doors:
Me - 2 coddos
Nick - 2 dabs, 3 coddos

Bait was frozen black and squid.

We'll give it another go there :)
