New Brighton 23/04/08

Postby FishermanDan » Sat Apr 26, 2008 12:06 am

Managed to escape from work early so Nick and I were on the beach at New Brighton about 6pm. Low water was at about 8 so the sand was still soft and heavy-going, much to Nick's annoyance when he realised he'd left the bait in the car...

Meanwhile, I put completely new line on my ABU 6500CT. It then took about 3 really awkward casts to realise that a completely full spool is absolutely impossible to manage (for me at least). Removed about 50 yards and was then back in business! You live and learn...
Even so, I'd had a dab each cast, and a whiting on the top hook once. Then followed a couple of doubles...

For the next hour I continued to pull in a stream of just undersized dabs and flounders whilst Nick stuggled to catch anything. However, it was such a nice evening that he couldn't really bring himself to get annoyed, and eventually his luck changed:

We both ended the evening with plenty of flatties, and Nick caught a specimen sized 'king of the sea' too:

God bless the 3-bearded rockling; podgy, slimey little b*ggers!....
...And my Maudlin shall sing you one of her best ballads; for she and I both love all anglers, they be such honest, civil, quiet men.
