The Island Sunday/Monday

Postby mossy the blue » Mon Feb 25, 2008 11:19 pm

Met up with Mal+ Pete and decided on somewhere different. we ended up down a dirt track by valley where the jets take off.We had the best of bait, fresh rag, suey, blow lug, razor fish plus frozen prawns, lug and clams. Fished the first 2 hours of the flood which gave us 4 Coleys :D :D

The tide became too strong for us to hold bottom,( this is defo a slack water mark )so we left at 10pm to head over to Newborough beach.
If you fish this mark at valley be aware that on big tides the car park floods so you have to put your car high up on the dunes.
Got to Newborough fished the high tide til 1, beautiful night but no fish. Kipped in the car and woke up to a force 8 gale straight on the beach.
went back to valley but the tide race was in full flow, so off to holyhead to the flagpole, too rough, ended up in church bay

Big seas running but out of the wind, fished the high but not a bite between us, then disaster,  mal gets stuck turning his motor around, :(

we got help from a nearby building site with the aid of a dumper truck, so be aware this is a shingle beach not safe to turn round on.
Still a fun 24 hours and i caught on my new reel :D :D

Great report gents !
It has always been my private conviction that any man who pits his intelligence against a fish and loses has it coming.

your pics of Church Bay appear to be Borth Wen. Was it just down the road from a hairpin bend where they are turning farm outhouses into holiday cottages? Church Bay is about a mile further up the coast (access via a steep slip way down the cliffs) near the wavecrest cafe and lobsterpot restaurant, also known as Porth Swtan.
