Match Report- P.M.s Xmas match

Postby heather » Mon Dec 29, 2008 9:33 pm

Match Report: N.W.A.S.A.C. Personal Members Xmas Match 2008, Sun 21.12.08, Seacombe Promenade, Wirral (36 rods).

There were plenty of bites on a mild evening over high tide on the popular Mersey promenade. The difficulty was in hooking and landing sizeable fish- with both codling and whiting in short supply in the estuary this winter, dabs made up the catches.
Liverpool’s Shaun Ripley crowned an impressive debut year as a shore match angler- he won the local Guernsey League back in the summer- by scooping all three major pools in this annual festive rover. Repeating Mike Emery’s clean sweep at the final championship match last month at Otterspool, his codling was the only one of the match and was joined by the best dab of the event.
Local casting instructor, Nigel Conlon was runner-up.
After the match, there were prizes and festive cheer for all at the Stanley’s Vault pub which overlooks the venue.

1. Shaun Ripley (Walton), 1 codling, 1 dab, 1whiting, 1 rockling, 3-11-0.
2. Nigel Conlon (Port Sunlight), 6 dabs, 1 whiting, 2-11-0.
3. Colin Nevitt (Dutton), 4 dabs, 2-0-8.
4. Barry Davies (Runcorn), 4 dabs, 1 whiting, 2-0-4.
5. Graham Hulme (Mottram), 1-12-8.
6. Paul Bonner (Hoylake), 1-10-0 .

Roundfish pool: S. Ripley: codling, 2-6-8.
Flatfish Pool: S. Ripley, dab, 0-10-8.

Sea fishermen are born honest. But they soon get over it.
