The Douglas 23-10-2016

Postby karlvaughan » Mon Oct 24, 2016 3:41 pm

Headed out about 2pm for a couple of hours on the free stretch of the Douglas at Rufford by the station (upstream of Rufford Meadow fishery and the road bridge). Lovely day to be out, noisy geese overhead and plenty of plump dace between 4 and 8oz, lots of chublets of between 8 and 12oz, a few perch and roach and a couple of better chub of 3.5lb (pictured) and one of about 2.5lb which lept from the landing net back into the river whilst I was unhooking it! Fished maggots and hemp. The blokes on Rufford meadow still looked miserable and fishless when I walked back past them on my way back to the car. The deep hole just upstream of the bridge that gave a nice slack to fish in when the levels are up has now been re-profiled following works to the embankment :(
