Primarily a flounder/plaice venue which fishes well from April onwards.Fresh crab takes some beating, though you`ll still catch plenty on rag tipped with mack`,or lug.
Best fished 2 hours either side of high water on tides of 28ft+.Fish will be taken along the whole stretch
the closer you are to the steps means you`ll eventually be pushed up on to the rocks
Standard beach gear/rigs are required, though you can also use light tackle as the fish can be caught close in.The beach is a mixture of sand/mud/stones/small boulders, and though in some areas it might not look it,but it`s relatively snag free.If arriving early, don`t be tempted to walk out,as the ground is very muddy and the tide floods in very quickly.
Getting there.....situated between West Kirkby and Thurstaston.....follow the A540 until you come to a small roundabout which is signposted for Caldy....follow the road in to the village, and it will narrow as it bends sharply to the left...as you come out of the bend, take the left turn on to Croft Drive East, then after 30yds turn right on to Croft Drive...follow this to the dead end, where there is limited parking. The steps down to the beach are found here.Alternatively, there is a large National Trust car park on your right, about 100yds before you reach the dead end.
