2nd N.W.A.S.A.C. Summer League Match 2012, Sun 13.5.12

Postby heather » Sat May 19, 2012 9:02 am

Match Report: 2nd round of N.W.A.S.A.C. Summer League, Dee Estuary, Queensferry, Sun 13.5.12 (35 rods).

Although this section of the upper Dee estuary had yet to find its form, at least there were some eels landed amongst the flounders. The floodwater was blamed for the relative lack of fish; this was confirmed by the fact that one angler’s peeler crab bait attracted a chub during the match!
However, there were no problems for the winner, Bill Lindfield whose 377 cms of eels and flounders were taken from the downriver end peg 46 and almost matched the combined runner-up and third place total.
Grimsby’s Karl Nangle only found one fish in his peg but it was the best of the day, fine 42 cms flounder.

Overall:
1. Bill Lindfield (Greasby), 377 cms.
2. Tony Owen (Blackburn), 198 cms.
3. John S. Williams (Prenton), 197 cms.

Zone A: Mark Taylor (Cumbria), 141 cms.
Zone B: Steve Rushton (Culceth), 102 cms.
Zone C: Michael Brookes (Birkenhead), 123 cms.
Zone D: Dave Campbell (Bebeington), 150 cms.

Flatfish Pool: 1. Carl Nangle (Grimsby), flounder, 42 cms.
2. D. Campbell, flounder, 40 cms.

We weigh Flounders in freshwater matches on the Dee but do not count Trout or Salmon.Winter leagues would see anglers targetting the flounder in areas were there was little else to catch and I have caught Flounder as high up as Bangor on dee.
In your case its a bit tricky because its not the anglers fault or the Chubs fault but as long as the rules are clear its a good decision :D
If the Eel retention laws get any stricter we should not weigh them either which would be a big problem in estuary matches.
