Most tackle shops I went into last year had them priced between 70p and £1 for fresh crab and even then demand seemed to outweigh supply.

I did well last year for crab and sold surplus at £1 each without trying. They where prime peeler though nursed lovingly to perfection, brought on with fresh sea water twice daily and once the hairline crack appeared they where refrigerated at approx 4C until needed. Not hardbacks that are thinking about peeling next month as seen in some tackle shops  They are expensive but with the work needed to collect and then maintain them properly, I don't think £1 is a bad price if there decent sized and actually ready to be fished with.

I took a few lads out last year and after that most where happy to just pay for them so the price isn't far out.

Biggest problem with crab is the size difference through the year, when you buy in numbers you will always find small medium and large crabs in a box but the price is the same for all sizes which causes problems.
Most are happy to pay the going rate of £1 for decent size crab but not for 50p sized ones but the collector still wants the same price per crab because the same effort is put in whatever size the crabs may be.
Same thing applies to Black Lug because you get large and small worms but with 10 in a packet its easier to mix the sizes and give a fair measure which is why we will be selling crab this year in packs of £3 or £5 to even the sizing out.
