Stanley Embankment 08/08/19

Postby Dyl » Wed Aug 28, 2019 9:20 am

After spending hour making light rigs with pop ups for what was a poor match at Pwllheli I was determined to catch a Garfish. I was on the island on this particular day so nipped over to Stanley Embankment. I parked on the edge of the A55 where I have parked previously with no issues

Image

It was spot on high tide 4.3m when I arrived.
There where several people throwing soft plastics about and fishing on the bottom (fairly busy location)

First can’t and I was in BOOM!

Happy day my first ever Garfish result
Notice someone else coming to join me wearing bright orange as he got closer he asked if it was my van? He was from VOSA the highways agency told me to move the van
Took my time tackling done when me rod nearly went out the rest fish number 2. I was using braid so had the drag set fairly light and it was taking line. Great little scrap

The 10 min session resulted in 2 of the target species probably the shortest session I’ve ever had but what a great session

Went back on the 11th with Dave Rad thinking we would have an awesome session (parking in a different location) fishing in the same spot same rig resulting in one Gar for me and 3 for Dave Rad in 3 hrs of fishing.

Garfish rig used was a long rig intended for the beach. Basically a long 2 hooked flapper
8-10ft rig body
4ft snoods using light 12lbs line (this helps with the movement of the bait and the pop up)
Hook size 4-6 with yellow pop up held in position with a bit of tooth pick
Bait was a very small sliver of Mac

Not sure you would need such long snoods at this venue?

I’ll be back
2017 Bass 2.7lbs / S Hound 11.8lbs
2018 Huss 9.15lbs

Hi Dyl
I fished the other side on Saturday evening I parked up by the cafe spoke to the guy who locks the car park the one further down towards the park and the toilet block gets locked at 21.00 but the cafe one is left open all night.
I was using plugs and had two misses.
There were a lot of mullet around.
Cheers
James

hi Dyl
I have caught mullet on the side that you were on with a baited spinner. I was canoeing around the inland sea on Sunday for 2 hours either side of high water and there was a lot about. I was thinking of trying with lures again or with bread flies. The fish were in less than 2 feet of water so could be stalked with a rod and lure or surface controller float.
Sorry this sea fishing thing is a bit different to how I normally fish.
Cheers
James
