I knew a big one would show up eventually.

Postby Big Hitter » Mon Jun 24, 2019 9:48 pm

Myself, Ste Moffat and Tony Thompson decided on a little Hound session today at a mark where I always thought would throw up a big fish. And how right I was.
Tactics for the day was again big crab baits fished at distance as it was only a small tide so tide run wasn’t too bad. ImageImage
Wasn’t long before Hound no1 showed up. A lovely conditioned fish about 4 1/2lb. Image
Tide was moving at a really nice pace and wasn’t long before the tell tale sign of a Hound attaching itself to my crab bait showed on my rod tip, this wasn’t a normal Hound bite it was a lot more delicate, I held my rod and felt for the bite and after a small pull down I lifted into a formula 1 racing car on steroids. This thing was big and meant business. The fish actually lept out of the water about 100yds out and did it 3 times before I got it to the drop net. I’ve never had a Hound jump out of the water before but this thing was angry. Anyway after a superb battle the beast was landed. Image
An absolutely stunning fish of 13lb 3oz and a new PB for me and also the biggest fish I’ve had out of the Mersey. ImageImage
I was in awe at this fish. It was absolutely incredible. Power and beauty personified.
And so we carried on. I landed another 3 Hounds, only small but perfect none the less. ImageImageImage
Steve also added a nice Hound to the tally for the day and so did Tony. Unfortunately no pic of Tony’s fish as yet as it’s on his phone. Image
I knew that all the hard work and hours of prep and fishing would pay off for us eventually and we would land that fish we have waited for. I’m absolutely over the moon with the fish and hope a few of you latch into one before they disappear again.
Just goes to show if you put in the time and effort you will be rewarded.
Till next time.
Tight lines everyone.

That’s a belter of a fish  So how did that scrap compare to the fish that bit you off a while ago which you thought may have been a tope?

Totally different type of fight buddy. The fish I lost was insanely powerful and it made a couple of runs that I couldn’t stop. I’m pretty sure it was a Tope. Especially with it biting through my hooklength. :o
