Proper Hounds off the Fort

Postby Big Hitter » Fri Jun 14, 2019 10:03 pm

Decided to give the Fort a go today with Ste Moffat and Peter Wedge.
With all the reports of no fish because of the rain etc I thought we’d give it a go as any of you that know me will know I like to prove some theories wrong. Today was one of those days.
Our first casts produced a lovely Hound each for myself and Steve.
Steve’s was a lovely Starry of 9lb 3oz
Image
Mine was my best of the year so far, an absolutely stunning looking fish of 11lb 5oz. Image
Baits for the day was crab and Hermit crab
ImageImage
That was pretty much it for the Hounds but Rays and Dogs just kept on coming, with the biggest Ray going 6lb 7oz Image
Which was actually a double shotImage
It’s was Ray after Ray from then on

What a lovely days fishing on the Fort and again proving that it’s not about listening to all the negative people saying you won’t catch because of this and because of that, GET OUT, drop a bait in the River and ya never know. Image
The Fort in my opinion is probably one of the best marks if not the best mark in the Mersey now. Don’t see the point in the Rock Channel walk anymore.
See you all soon.

Cracking session :D ,interesting seeing the hermits used off the shore, tried edibles and swimmers (peeling) but not hermits, never found enough to try tbh do they hold together well when casting? Or is there a certain techniqueto hook them up?
Perch having hounds is great as my lads have wanted to go for hounds but rock channel crossing is to dangerous for them.

Excellent session. Have used hermit crabs for the smoothies in the past. Underrated bait
