Another short Cod session no6

Postby Big Hitter » Sat Dec 29, 2018 11:50 pm

Another little session in the River to look for a Cod or two.
Flat calm conditions so wasn’t confident but give it a go and was rewarded with two nice Codling for my efforts.
Really enjoying this Cod season this year. Getting a few on the bank.
Bait as normal was Lug, Crab and Squid fished at distance.

Had a Dogfish first cast and then a small Codling about 8oz.
Then the first decent one turned up
Image
A nice plump fresh fish

Wasn’t long before decent fish no 2 showed up.
Another very fresh fish
Image
After another run of small fish decided to call it a day. Had a fish virtually every cast but only two decent ones.

But again another successful couple of hours on the River.
Happy New Year to you all.

Good session. I think having crab is a real bonus and I wish I had collected some this summer. Your cocktail baits look too good to eat!!

You have to admire this guy, it just goes to show that good, well presented bait and good technique pays off.Well done and best wishes for the new year.

Another good session Jamie  looks like your bait presentation and rig is all about the distance. About what distance are you casting ?

Dyl Jamie was launching his bait minimum 180 yards I reckon more towards the 200 yards proper beast casting .

Probably around 175-180yds with that big a bait mate. All depends on conditions. We had nice calm sea and weather that night. I’ve gone down to lower diameter lines now with tapered leaders going to 70lb as I’m using fixed spools on a GB FS PRO with 175g leads and 70lb rig bodies and I’m casting further with less effort.
