Conger Hunt. Anglesey.

Postby starfish » Sat Dec 15, 2018 11:38 am

.

I had planned on going out on saturday up the island
but with the predicted weather due this weekend
and seeing a gap in the weather on friday
i jumped at the chance and headed out up too anglesey.

Image

The target fish would be Conger eels tonight
i arrived in the daylight and got set up ready too fish
i had a few hours to wait till darkness came
so i had a go at the pollock too pass the time
i was rewarded in the first cast with a pollock for 1.7.8.. :D

Image

that was quickly followed by another for 1.5.0. :D

Image

The next cast went out just as the light was fading
and the target was hit and a small conger was on
small it was about 2 lb but they were there
and they were active so hopes were high :D .

Image

I took two more pollock as the darkness came and headlights came out
and the rigs and baits were swapped over for the conger eels.

Image

Image

The first conger came on after an hour for 5.8.0. :D

Image

Quickly followed by another one for 4 lb. :D

Image

The straps were very active tonight as the baits were getting smashed
a few missed fish and yet another strap for around the 4 lb mark.

Image

Then at last the left rod went berserk big time :D
the reel was just screaming i set the hook
and a much better fish was on the pull back and fight was amazing
i kept the pressure on and tried to gain some line back
after 10 mins i had the fish up to the surface
it kept diving back down so i had too hold the rod high and edge it too the waters edge
i got the fish too the lower rock ledges and now had another problem
i was about 30 ft up so i had too edge my way down the waters edge down the cliffs
keeping the tension on the fish and not giving it any slack line
i grabbed the line by hand and waited for the waves too help me pull the fish out
at last i had a big conger eel out and now i had to climb 30 ft back up as if i dropped the fish down here it was gone
And all went too plan i made it. :D

Image

Now for problem number two self timing pictures and only 10 seconds too get ready
on a ledge with only space for one person and a 6 ft conger o the joy.

Image

Image

I had too climb back up the top of the cliff too weigh it and getting a better pic
time was running out the pics dont do this fish justise at all
but this fish needs to go back ASAP and i have a long way back down to let it go
scores on the doors 6 ft long and came in at 24 lb. :D

Image

After that things went quiet over low water with one more strap coming out
and then the dogs came on and it was off home a very happy chappy. :D

Cracking fish that Paul  Equally fair play to you having the stones to climb down and back up...and back down again especially seeing as you normally struggle with rock pools on a flat beach
