Tuesday Morning Otterspool

Postby parky1991 » Tue Nov 13, 2018 3:31 pm

Got that angling bug again and keen to get out as much as i can. After finishing last nights session at perch rock i had a look to see when i could have another go at otterspool and try and find some good fish. Found a tide for this morning/afternoon and set my alarm before heading to bed.

Woke up at 9 and gave the tackle shop a call to hear they only had frozen lug in. So lay back down in bed ready to give it a miss but dragged myself up and out anyway, picking some frozen lug up on the way over the water. Wasn't keen on the rain we had last night but ventured out anyway full of optimism, due to the healthy breeze in the right direction, some chocolate coloured water and some sun to keep me somewhat warm :birthday:

Got to my chosen spot which i believe is to the left of the old jetty around 3 1/2 - 4 hours before high.

Didn't take long to get into my target species with this 2.6 lb beaut on my second cast.

Just a shame he couldn't have made an appearance for me on sunday and won me the winter league match ha

Next cast resulted in another a little smaller at 2.4 lb

That was the last of the landed cod, with 2 being lost on the retrieve. One when my hook length snapped (found it to be quite abrasive, so replaced it every 4 casts or so afterwards) and the 2nd which felt a much better fish, got snagged reeling in. Rotten bottom worked but unfortunately fish also came off.

After that it was just whiting smashing the bait which a few around 30cm taken. Packed up around high tide when i ran out of lug and some speedboats turned up fannying about. Got treated to a few flybys from a C17 Globemaster and went home feeling pretty content. :D

It can be hit and miss for sure. Had an audience for the first one then afterwards had people coming upto me asking ‘are you the lad with the cod?’ Haha
