Otterspool 05/11/18.

Postby starfish » Tue Nov 06, 2018 9:35 am

.

Fished otterspool last night in search of mr codling
a nice night too be out with a grate firework display coming from both sides off the mersey
i again brought the LRF rod too have a play at close range
and i was rewarded very quickly with a rockling.

Image

And the first codlet of the year at 18cm.

Image

The LRF rod was consistent throughout the night
and it kept me busy with pin whiting and small codling and rockling.

The cod rods were also having some action tonight with the first and best codling for 1.6.8. and at 41cm :D

Image

Image

That was soon followed by yet another codling again small at 1.2.8. and at 28cm. :D

Image

Image

There was also the odd whiting about but they were not in any numbers with the best going too 37cm.

Image

And the last cast took yet again another small codling for 33cm. :D

Image

Nothing big came out tonight but a good first session too start off the cod season
and it is good too see the cod are making it back down the river. :D

Nice one Paul. Great start to opening your Winter account
If people concentrated on the REALLY important things in life....... There would be a shortage of fishing rods and reels

Cheers Starfish  also wondering what terminal gear set up did you use. Am tempted to try something along those lines myself to keep me occupied while waiting for the Coddos and was wondering what sort of weight you’d need to hold in the tide  and what bait

basically a single drop shot rig but as i was on braid and not fluro
then i would have just made the drop shot rig out of the main line with a drop shot knot
so i used a very small swivel for the top of the rig
and about 8 inch of 30 lb shock leader two tiny crimps and 2 beads and a very small swivel set about 5 inch up
and about two inches of 25lb snood line with a size 4, 6 or 8 hook
a 10 gram drop shot wait threaded through with no knot.
and micro baits no bigger than the hook
black and a tiny bit of mac or just a mac strip
tiny bit of bait elastic to hold it up the hook
and straight down the wall or 5 yards out. :D
i have not tried the plastics lures worms etc as yet in the river ;)

Cheers Starfish, will give it a go next time I'm out. Seems a cracking way to keep entertained while waiting for the cod rods to start knocking
