First crack at the Mersey cod

Postby Ste Robbo » Sun Oct 21, 2018 9:44 am

Dad was up and out early hours this morning on the river Mersey to get his winter cod fishing off to a start
If this winter is anything like the previous one then it’ll be smiles all around and instantly he picked up where he had left off with the first fish landed being the targeted species.. not the biggest but a cod was on the bank
That fish was then followed by two dog fish
Then a 3rd species was out with a good sized pouting
To finish off what turned out to be a really good session a second cod was added to his bag of fish
Great start to the winter season and nice to see the cod in the Mersey

Nice fish and tidy session there

Fingers crossed they stay this year. Thought last year got to a reasonable start then fell away

Got the week off so might have an early morning session at Otterspool this week
Only here for the cod!

They tend to have lots of small bones so best to bake in foil with a bit of vinegar and pepper or just lemon juice then the flesh falls off the bone.
Great sesssion and good to see the codling moving in. Becoming much colder Friday on so that may make a few more enter the river.
