Perching Floundering Wrassing

Postby Tom » Sat Sep 01, 2018 12:28 pm

Been targeting the addictive Perch. I knew that I had a chance to find a big boy but if it would happen it would been putting the time in and getting through the small perch, rudd and roach.

After a steady progression on the size and locating them, I had a greater chance and started learning fast. They feed heavy in the evening time and I thought about their eyes being so big for a reason.

Armed with a small barbless hook and ball of maggots on the float, I was basically flyfishing. Fishing on the drop for hours each session.

When the float darted under on the biggie I knew it could be the dream Perch. It took me for a ride and shot into the lillys not to be pulled out I went in and hugged it out the water with awe.

Caldy

After missing some cracking bites I was undeterred to pursue a fish.
I missed the Bass but started to hit the flounder.

The ebb fished a heck of a lot better. Throwing the baits at the sticks I caught 1 small flounder and 2 nice ones. Letting a kid nearby release the biggest in his net.

Wrassing on the yak was textbook. Aimed for a cuckoo and mackerel and caught both with the mackerel being a jumbo it took me for a ride lol. Thought it was going to be a pollock of 3lb!

Mackerel, Corkwing, Ballan, Cuckoo, Pollock in just over an hour with a few drops in. It's key to let that bait get to the bottom for lightning fast takes :D
Whiting, Pollock, Pouting, Dab, Codling, Huss, Dogfish, Plaice, Blenny, 5B Rockling, Flounder, Silver Eel, Bass, Thornback, Starry, Common SH, Ballan, Corkwing, Rock Goby, LS Scorpion Fish, Tompot, Grey, Tub G, Launce, Mackerel, PoorCod, Weever, Cuckoo

Cracking report !That pit looks very familiar:) Did you know a 4lb plus Perch came out of that pit a few years ago?Best time for them locally is the back end of the winter when they're bulked up just before spawning ,Have a go dropshotting for them ?great tactic for perch
