A few sessions up the island.

Postby starfish » Fri Aug 10, 2018 10:23 am

.

06/08/18.

I spent a few days up on anglesey with family and friends this week
and as being up there is far too tempting for me not too go out fishing
i sneaked out for a few nights too wet my lines and catch a few fish. :D

Monday night had a moderate sea and a keen south west wind on the west side of the island
so i headed east too get some cover from the wind and find calmer waters
i would target conger from one of my favorite marks down there.

I arrived just as the sun was setting
and i climbed down the cliffs and got set up ready for darkness
as i was setting up a large pod of porpoise about 15 of them
were only 20 yards out and what a lovey sight that was too see :D

Big baits and big hooks were the way too go tonight
but a few dogs were still able too take the large baits with ease.

Image

Then the dogs went quiet and the conger were out and about on the feed
i had a real good take but this resulted in the fish letting go at the last minute
the second take was not much better then the first
but on the third take it payed off with a conger for 4lb
but that would be the last bite of the night.

07/08/18.

Round two the wind was still blowing strong but i would take on the west side this time
arriving just on high water an hour before the darkness came
i had a pop at the wrasse before they went too bed for the night
there were still a few about too 1.1/2 lb just as the sunset.

Image

i kept the small hooks and rag baits going to get some fresh bait for the night
there were plenty of poor cod and pouting about so i had plenty of bait. :D

Image

The sea was like a washing machine but i still manged to catch a conger again for 4lb
it was time to go after that as the waves were getting a bit too high.

I had a call from Tom who was also up on the island so we met up at holyhead brakewater wall
we fished the inside wall over high water 2 up 2 down
we had a few hours in the daylight and a few hours in the dark
two rods went right out and very light gear went close down the wall
the small wrasse were hitting the baits hard and gave us fun for an hour till the sunset. :D

Image

The rods that went out had a good knock and good pull down so i hit it reeled it in
and was glad too see a small thornback ray was on the end.

Image

my other rod went almost immediately and the second thornback ray was out. :D

Image

The dogs and whiting came out on the feed as soon as it got dark.

And the last fish of the night was a baby bull huss
and even at that size they still have some power when you hold them. :D

we would have stayed longer but my friends kids were getting tired now.
a few nice sessions up on the island and it makes a welcome change from the mersey
i will get back up there soon for a good go at the day fish
as i did not have the time too fish in the daylight this trip. :D

crack effort and fish Paul
If people concentrated on the REALLY important things in life....... There would be a shortage of fishing rods and reels
