Mission accomplished my first smooth hound

Postby Ste Robbo » Wed Aug 01, 2018 9:51 am

Fished perch rock last night with my dad and Lewis in hopes of getting my first smoothie and I did It! After months and numerous sessions I had one on the beach!
We got down to perch about 5:40 and was soon putting our first baits in the water... pulley rigs baited with fresh crab! It was a beautiful yet breezy night to be out on the beach

The first two hours nothing was happening at all a few other anglers down the beach and didn’t see anything coming out from them either until about 50 mins before low...
after putting out a fresh bait and just about to place my rod down on the rest the ratchet on my other rod screamed off struck into the fish and it swam straight towards me.. I thought I’d lost it until it got to about 30 yards out then it kicked up a fuss.. anyway the wait was over a nice smoothie of about 5/6lb and that species now ticked off the list at last!

About 10 mins later I had a big slack liner and had another fish on but this one spat the hook on the way in!
Nothing else happened till my last chuck when the ratchet took a couple of short burst and this time it felt more like a thornie... the fish was moving but a dead wait until ping... the line where my quick link was tied parted
That was it after that we decided to call it a night as the tide had just turned didn’t see anything else come up onto the beach was a pretty quiet night other than the couple of fish I got into but buzzing to finally get my smoothie... onto the next species

Well done Ste.
Get ya self down to Seacombe over high and get a double on. You’ll know the meaning of power then. The deep water coupled with the tide run and 10lb of angry Hound on is awesome mate.
