Talacre - 17 June 2018

Postby Paul Argent » Sun Jun 17, 2018 3:36 pm

After visiting Talacre in the recent WSF match, and only hooking one Smoothound, I knew that I had to return as so many fish came out in Round 2.

Low water was just before 9am, so arrived at Talacre as the sun came up just after 4am, it was a spring tide so the beach car was closed and therefore parking at “The Point” beach bar was the best option, just adding 300m to the walk.

After the walk across the sands I managed to have a line in by 5am. Peelers and Fresh Blacks were used as bait with a 2 hook flapper rig.

I was surprised that for a Sunday morning tide that I was the only person on the beach.

Second cast resulted in a double hit of flatties

Following that I had another double this time a good size Eel and and Smoothound 60cm

With it being a spring tide, the weed was a bit of a pain until later in the tide.

Once the weed and tide eased I followed up with another 6 Smoothound 2 Dabs and a flounder. Best smooth hounds measured 93cm and 5lb 11oz, however the 5 were not far behind it.

However best fish of the session was a 6lb 11oz Bass measuring 70cm.

Well worth the drive and the walk, what a great mark this is.

Thanks Kev, and everybody that has posted a reply with kind words, can I enter it into the bass section of the yearly catches that you record?

Have a great session on Saturday night/ early Sunday morning. recommend anybody who has not fished it to meet with Kev at the venue.
