Otters pool . 10\2\18

Postby Gazmag » Sat Feb 10, 2018 8:47 pm

Hi all. This is my first report on the forum so I apologize in advance if it's carp! I got to otters pool about 5.15ish 3hrs before high water I was the only one there. It was quite nice setting up quite mild and light winds no and no rain. I fished 2 rods quite short fishing 3 hook flappers with size 1\0 hooks with small black lug squid wraps. I started getting knocks straight away and ended up with 5 very small codling but had to pack up about 7.30 due to high winds and driving rain. Quite a nice session pity about the effing wind. See you boys around . ps every fish came to the bottom hook on the flapper every time, so suspect the fish are hard on the bottom .Gaz

Well done Gaz. It's always tough in the rain!

Interesting you say the bottom hooks were into the codling, same goes for me at Vale/Seacombe. Guess I'll be building more 5ft longers again for the better tides.

Tom. Every cast was either a little codling or the hook was picked clean on the bottom snood the other baits were hardly touched. I was only fishing 9inch snoods so the bottom snood was the only one nailed to the bottom. I deduced that the crabs were having the bait and the codling were having the crabs..gaz

I thought about that when using bait elastic on big baits, is it the crabs they come for or the bait.. we'll never know :)
