Otterspool 6.2.18

Postby Bobdeniro2 » Tue Feb 06, 2018 7:52 pm

After hearing of a run of small codling about decided to have a session on the prom. I nearly let the snow and 0.c temperature put me off but soon I'd set up base camp.
Image
I fished 3 hours up and 1.5 down the 3.12pm high. First hour was quiet then over the next hour had 4 small codling to about 1.5lb.

Image
After that it was quiet until high when I managed 2 whiting
Image
A lucky dab (lucky coz I dragged in a rig with it that I'd lost earlier)
Image
And one more codling to finish off the session.

No pb's but enough tip action to blow the cobwebs away

Nice one. I did 10 hours on Saturday morning in that big tide and not a bite.

Nice one and with rig recycling!! I have recovered quite a few rigs since starting on the Mersey as I still use 85lb braid from my North Sea cod fishing days. Were all the fish caught on lug?

Thanks Nick, all codling on lug with squid tippet, lug with mackie tippet for the others mostly on 2 hook flappers. I use 60lb braid straight through on my f/s but have been using 30lb dip chromium since someone on the site mentioned it (@ same diameter as ordinary 18lb mono) , with 70lb greased weasel shock-leader on my multi and lose a lot less rigs than when I was using tapered shockleaders, especially where a big chuck isn't necessary, it was costing me a fortune. When I got the rig back it had snapped about 25yds above the leader knot clean through so guess a mussel shell or something sharp must have sliced through

Interesting about the setup for your multiplier. Lot of the guys I fished with on the NE coast of scotland use 110lb braid as we are talking seriously rough ground. Off the cliffs at Arbroath when I used mono you could feel the line rubbing on the rocks and it would come back frayed. So anyone heading east for larger cod, be prepared with heavy gear and rotton bottoms. 30lb mono just doesn't cut the mustard.

How do you get a brolly mounted onto your seat box?
That's a great idea.

You can buy mounting arms (I've got them for my coarse seat box) but this was just bungeed to the railings and my box. Don't know how it'd stand up to strong winds but it kept the snow off me for a couple of hours
