Waterfall and Guinea Gap

Postby Big Hitter » Wed Dec 20, 2017 9:16 pm

Decided on a quick session at the waterfall at Seacombe Ferry end of prom.
Plan was to fish 3hrs after high and fish it down to low using only crab on a pennel.
I had 3 fish in 3 casts of around 1 1/2lb and then lost 3 sets of gear on 3 casts, time for a move.
I walked upto the slip at Guinea Gap and fished just to the right of it on the beach.
First cast was another small Codling of about 1lb.
I decided to fish at maximum distance and it resulted in this

A nice conditioned fish around 3 1/2lb, and it gave a really good account of itself.
That was the biggest fish of the session. I ended up with 7 fish between 1lb to 3 1/2lb.
Really nice night to be on the river

I fished a fixed spool down the rod tonight for a change and really enjoyed it. Something I may do more of in the future.

Cracking session Jamie   I'm looking at that rod at the moment (Taktika). It gets great reviews and supposed to heave a cracking sensitive tip, how do you find it stands up to the Mersey?

Hi mate,
The Taktika is superb, really powerful and like you said has a lovely tip. I only really use it with 4oz if I’m casting hard but it will handle 6oz no problem but I think 4oz is its best lead. The rod holds up well in the tide run as I only really use 12lb line with it. Tonight I used it with 4oz lead on a clipped pennel and 16lb line with a 50lb leader and it was fine. To be honest it’s one of the nicest conti Rods I’ve used and I’d certainly recommend one.
Your more than welcome to have a go of mine before you buy.
Bonners bait and Tackle has the full range of Vercelli rods in and will beat anyone’s price on em.

Nicely done Jamie. Good to see that venue fishing a bit better than it has of late.
