Not what we went for but......

Postby iank » Wed Jun 07, 2017 8:19 pm

Did the crossing to the Rock Channel with Richie then met up with Chris out there. We were held up a bit due to the wind creating a bit of a chop but we felt pretty confident as we strolled out because the wind had also created a nice bit of surf.

Whilst the main target was obviously the Smoothounds the surf did offer another option and I'd even taken out one of my light telescopic rods to have a few chucks close in to see if anything else was about. Again the first cast proved all important and provided my only fish of the day...........

Very pleasing seeing as I'd already had a few sessions looking for my first of the year. Unfortunately that was it for the day with a total lack of smoothies.

Was worth the walk just to see a decent bass. Great catch, but remember it was my lucky hat that did it for you!

It certainly worked, I will have to borrow it more

By the way I meant to mention that there were lots of cockles and a few other clams washed up if anyone wants some free bait.

that's a great catch Ian, making the session absolutely worthwhile  . Well it would do for me as I have never caught a bass.

Good result, they're getting bigger. That one fish made for a decent session.

Very strange why we don't see more coming out from that mark. Nicely done Ian

Love it Ian....I recon there's plenty there, but people mainly overcasting for the smoothies, still....you'd think more would show with the amount of crab going in
or is it similar to Formby....never done any good on the peeler, but they love the lug

I think Mike is right in that we often overcast them, also I think that people usually fish the channel in fairly settled conditions. We had strong winds the day before, there was a lot of cockles and clams washed up and still a bit of surf maybe all giving the bass a reason to be around.

That one was taken on crab Mike, cast out for smoothies so just lucky to be in the right place

Probably right about the conditions Ian, just another puzzle to keep the grey matter ticking over
