Early Dash To The Lleyn

Postby Richie Fisher » Wed May 31, 2017 9:56 pm

I've been meaning to get down to a favourite rock mark for a while now but life always seems to get in the way. Anyway, a window appeared today and I was up at 3am and left at 3.30am and headed off for the 2.5hr journey. I needed to leave this early to secure the mark, and on arrival it was all mine. :D

The aim as always is to launch a big bait out in the hope of getting a Tope, Conger or Huss whilst also utilising a float rod and a lure rod for everything else. The weather forecast was good with sunshine and light SE winds. What actually occured was mist, wind and squally showers.

To cut to the chase, nothing happened on the big rod/bait in the 8 hours I was there. I did however have great fun catching pollock and wrasse all throughout the session using all means possible. I ended with well over 30 something pollock, a handful of wrasse and a spider crab. Nothing of any note, my biggest pollock was 1lb 13ozs and biggest wrasse was exactly a pound.

If the walk back wasn't hard enough, the rain turned the rock into an ice rink and I slipped and turned my knee. Walking back up, every step consisted of nerve pain, plus the extra distance with the lane was covered in cow slurry about 2 inches deep. happy days!!
