Another Day Down the Lleyn

Postby wobbler72 » Thu May 25, 2017 8:35 pm

6am start today. I'm weakening :)

In stark contrast to yesterday (with rough ground rods, whole Mackerel baits and 8oz leads), today was almost at the opposite end of the spectrum, casting 5g lures on a 7ft 6inch light lure rod. The target prey? Well lets just say it's not something you see every day. And there's the thing. I saw some today, (together with Mullet and some Trout), had 2 takes, but didn't connect properly. Tide and times noted, they'll be back tomorrow ..... and so will I.

After a leisurely breakfast I went down to the Marina, fired up the boat and me and the Missus went for a picnic on the water. We were really just meandering around looking for the Dolphins and ended up in Porth Ysgo bay. Loads of small baitfish in the water. Saw two guys fishing Rhiw, big rods out over low. Not the best option in my experience but hey ho. Maybe they know something I don't.

After that, we headed back up the coast towards Pwllheli, and stopped for a while to half-heartedly wet a line about 1/2 a mile off Gimblet. We were into the Dabs straight away, bit as ever around here, they're not much bigger them palm size.

It got a better bite and a more energetic fight and caugha half decent Greater Weever to baited sabiki's. The stupid thing then went and wrapped its tail around the lower hook and lead.

The pic doesn't do it justice, I'd say it was just under a pound. Lovely colours  and markings too.

After that, the dogs found our bait and that was it. It was a dogfish a cast until I upped anchor at around 5.30pm.

Gotta go now. Got some prepping to do for the mystery quarry in the morning :)

Tight lines :)
Kev
