Sounds like a great place to fish, a bit like the Pinfold Channel off Southport that I fished in the 70's ( mostly silted up now though). Hell of a walk, too !
I don't know when I might be able to have a session in the channel but I would be curious to know the depth that you are fishing in and why apparently the smoothies only show in the channel at low-water. I've never seen or heard of them in the river or on Harrison Drive.
I guess it's the smoothies that make the effort worthwhile, anyone bother at other times of the year ?

Well done
You catch smutts off the Alex Dock Wall they also got them last year at Perch Rock but the best place is the Rock Channel.

Many more are being caught up river these days.Once the smoothies have left the river not many venture down there because you can catch the sames species up river.
