And the other half of the walk.

Postby iank » Wed May 24, 2017 6:38 pm

I made my second crossing of the week to have another go for the Smoothounds in the Rock Channel. Yesterday's walk was made with a few lads off the site but I can't divulge names just in case any of them had told their wives they were having an affair to cover up their fishing habit.

Today's crossing was made with Roy and Steve with Roy and me braving an early crossing to get that all important first cast. Steve adopted the sensible approach to try an alternative plan of fishing closer in.

Yesterday the water was thick with algae knocking confidence a bit and six rods, all lads off the site, remained fairly stationery with not a smoothie between us. Today the algae wasn't there to start and the flow was a bit stronger bringing back a bit of optimism.

Roy was first into action on his second chuck of the day.......

Landing a lovely 7lb 10oz Smoothound.........

Shortly after this I had a nice bite that I missed then the bites dried up for a bit. Unusually after an hour or so I had a typical smoothound bite resulting in a nice, hard fighting 7lb 4oz fish......

Image

As we approached low water Roy adapted his tactics and was rewarded with a further four different species; whiting, dab, pouting and......

Another enjoyable couple of days, good to see a number of lads off the site again and good to meet you both Mark and Graham.

Good to meet Mark and Graham off the site  Great weather, until that sea mist rolled in, at great speed, as we were getting off the bank. Hounds a bit hit and miss at the moment, but it is still only May, looking forward to next couple of months.
