Town Hall Steps 26/11/15
Myself and my Dad fished the Town Hall Steps this afternoon for our first proper crack at the Codling this winter. The match at the weekend was a bit hit and miss but a few Codling did hit the beach so that coupled with the bigger tide was enough to give a bit of confidence that there would be a few about.
We got on the beach for 14:15 as soon as the bank uncovered. With it being a big tide the run was considerable.......................
My Dad was to my left, baits out and the wait began, but not for too long hopefully...................
First cast and bingo, 3lb 1oz and 51cm...........
My Dad quickly followed up with this one bang on 2lb and 44cm....................
Then next cast he was in again and this time it was a better fish at 3lb 11oz and 57cm........................
The first hour on the beach here is always the best in my opinion and that again proved the case this afternoon with all the fish coming within an hour of being on the bank.............
After that the Whiting started to come out in force. We fished down to low water, which was a 0.6m low, which gave a sneak peak of what you are fishing over the majority of the time. I think this shingle bank acts as a highway for the Codling and they definitely run along it hoovering the crabs up as the fall back off the bank with the dropping tide................
