Big eels & Flounder

Postby morrow » Sun Jan 25, 2015 8:37 pm

Decided to take a trip to the island with my mate Jason, I wanted to target eels so me and jason headed over to the island and fished 2 marks, I had plenty of macky, squid, sand eel and rag we first headed over to point lynas to try and get some shelter from the WNW winds and we did manage this, It was the first time at the mark but i didn't really like it to be honest as darkness fell we got fed up with pin whiting and dogs so we decided to make our way to mark 2, I decided to have a real good go for the conger and put a little effort into it, Full Macky mounted on a 10/0 fished over some stupidly snaggy ground 1st cast i lost a rig and thought thats how it was going to be all night so i tried again, Plaiting patently , there were plenty of codling and rockling to keep us busy i had never caught a rockling as big so i was happy with that, i had 1 good take on the conger rig, it was a monster i couldn't get up as the wall was too high it ended up coming off i was gutted so cast out again thinking i had missed my only opportunity of the night 15 minutes later line started wizzing from my reel struck into it felt a dead weight then nothing     3rd time lucky i decided to take my time if i was to get another take be patient let the fish hook itself i ended up connecting and landing 3 eels while jason had one, lovely double figure fish i had to walk 80 or so yards so i could walk down some rocks to land them i was goosed i had no energy left! after that i really needed my drop net so i decided to pack up what a night a first for me! Today i had plenty of rag left over soo took a trip to hale fished near the lighthouse as the baby was with me i was hoping for cod but it was poor very poor! 3 flounder in the last 20 minutes of my session as the tide was on its way out! cracking weekend i will be back for more eels soon.

Cracking session Jay...some good fish there   I guess it can get a tad monotonous catching conger and 3 beards all night so good to see you venturing over to Hale today to target some proper fish
