Otterspool- BIG COD! FINALLLLY!!!

Postby Planty » Mon Dec 29, 2014 12:09 pm

So me and Dave decided on otterspool for a change of scenery. Whilst packing the car we decided to leave the drop net at home as we didn't really think we'd need it (mistake haha) we headed over armed with frozen black, crab, squid,Mack and 2 blow lug (we just couldn't seem to pump any that morning) high tide was around 4pm and our first cast was around half 1. Dave set up 2 rod both pulley pennel.I set up 2 rods a 3 hook flapper and a pulley pennel. Literally within minutes of Daves first cast his rod nearly got pulled over!!! He managed to grab it as it was on its way into the water and thought he'd snagged into a big bit of weed on its way in. It wasn't til a few minutes of resistance the 'snag' started to come in and fight back! in the words of Ronson green FISH ON! Now was the problem of getting it up the wall?! I started hand lining it up but was scared the line was going to snap on the wall, but great team work seen the fish come onto the prom and the crowd that had gathers weren't dissapointes!!!!! A BIG COD!!! Whaeyyyy finally!!!!!! We were over the moon and everyone was asking to get photos of it! Dave was like a celebrity haha poor Dave couldn't do much fishjng after that as everyone that passed up said 'are you the guys with the big fish' , 'can we see that big fish?' 'I heard someone caught a big one here' etc etc! Literally about 15 differnt people over the next 90 minutes were comeing asking for photos haha, some journalist woman from an online magazine thing turned up asking if it was us that caught THAT fish and could she get some photos for her website!! Hahaha I ended up with a 3lb cod (my pb woo) lost a 2lber up the wall and had about 4 whiting.
The big one weight 7lb when we got it home after it was gutterd (we gutterd it there and then, binned the guts but left the scales at home). But as u can see from the first photo, it had A LOT of insides!!!!

Thats a fish of a lifetime from the shore, looking at pushing double figues in my opinion looking at the pictures before you gutted it, fantastic to see fish like that being caught from an easy access venue like Otterspool. It produces fish like this every year without fail. Fantastic result and great to see such a happy captor too
