Formby 10/7/14

Postby geddo » Thu Jul 10, 2014 4:00 pm

With a unexpected day of today and checking the forecast last night N/W 10-13mph and a nice tide of 8.4m I decided on an early start this morning to formby, arrived on the beach for about 5.30am dug enough blow for my session, then back to the car for a coffee and toast, sorted some rigs out then made the short walk to the beach,a nice surf greeted me Image had the beach all to myself with chest waders on I made my way out into the surf and cast my 2,O pully pennel loaded with worms into the surf, nothing happened for the first two casts and with the deep gulley behind me filling up fast I decided it was best to get of the bank and walk a bit further to the right to the mouth of the gulley fished this for about 20mins, waiting for the rest of the bank to be covered then walked a few minutes back to my intended mark, this really is a deep gulley and looks very promising to fish into, so I waded my way out so as to be sure to hit the middle of the gulley and put it just were I wanted it Image and then I waited with my rod in hand and surf up to my waist, I just love this style of fishing you can feel every little tug and react instantly if need be, about 10 mins had gone by and no joy so reeled in baited up and put in back in the middle of the gulley and waited, after about 10mins I felt a gentle tug and reeled into it and felt a fish on so I carried on reeling and felt a decent bend in my bass rod, as it got closer it swam into the surf which is a common thing for them to do, until the last 20 metres when it started to make a dash up the beach to my left, I beached it on the sand and to my delight it was a decent fish Image Image excuse the selfie got it on the scales and it came in bang on 4lb just the right size for my cooler bag Image managed to grab a kind gent who took a better pick of me with the bass Image had a small flounder after that then packed in on high tide, and walked of the beach very happy not to have been working today. Cheers mark
