Caldy 31/03/13

Postby SparkUK » Sun Mar 31, 2013 8:53 pm

So I decided to have a few hours over at Caldy today, what a stunning day.....

Image

There were already two guys set up waiting for the tide when I got there so after exchanging a few pleasantries I wandered part way towards the snaggy bits and set up on the sand... Damn that water came in quickly! The water went from being about 100 metres out to lapping at my feet before I could get a bait in the water and I'm no slouch at setting up!

Well quiet isn't the word.... I had not so much as a tap while the guys over to my right pulled in at least half a dozen flounders and they were just the ones I saw. Anyway they left at high water and I decided to stay a while, well as luck would have it my last chuck ins pulled a fish on each rod so saved the blank

One smallish and one pretty decent, but let them go back for another day.

Nice rasta-rig

Never had a great deal of joy with beads at Caldy (I think the water is too cloudy), scent is the key there, rag tipped with mack is always a good bet ;)

That was fresh lug tipped with mack, as you say, too murky really for beads but it was the best nailed down two hook rig I had. (Worked though  )

Great report. I was there Saturday and had one flounder on the left had side of the steps like yourself.
Two anglers on the right had about a dozen between them, I guess the lesson is that you need to get to Caldy early to claim he best fishing spots.
