They tend to troll on the boats for the bigger species like Blue Fin Tuna and Yellow Fin Tuna. The smaller Black Fin Tuna and Barracuda are usually caught free-lining with livebait.

The rods for the Blue Fin are something to behold  The tip is over 3/4" diameter! The reel is between 10 and 12 inches wide :o

FYI I'm lead to believe this stuff is good for leaders when there's a chance of hooking a toothy critter:
http://mikestackleshop.com/surflon-micr ... _name=wire
It's knottable. Tried to get some before my hols but didn't arrive at all.
In the end it was needed anyway.
Might put a few pics up tonight.

What gear (spinning rod/reel) were you getting the cuda and tuna on?

12/20lb boat rods combined with 4000 series fixed spool reels..... all old gear supplied by the charter boat. 30lb line with 60lb snood for livebait to a 6/0 forged hook.

Had we gone on the charter boat that we had originally booked I could have used my new Penn Powerstick Pro 20/30lbs travel rod and Abu 7 reel.

By the way, the photo's misleading... I caught tuna but not cuda, Ian got both.

Excellent post Richie.....well done mate
If people concentrated on the REALLY important things in life....... There would be a shortage of fishing rods and reels
