RAF Valley 29/12/10

Postby Yaffle » Wed Dec 29, 2010 10:05 pm

The original plan was a low water session at Talacre, however when i got there a match was in progress so I decided to carry on over to the Island. Picked Malcolms brains, as you do, and decided on trying Valley.

A nice surf and coloured water, little wind and no weed - perfect, resulting in bites on the off with a handfull of Coalies and Silvers - nothing of any size but better than Whiting at Talacre :)

All in all a very pleasant day topped off by a nice display from the Seakings droppin' some poor begger in the water and practising pickups and, of course, lightly dusted and shallow fried Coalie and bass for supper

Yaffle do you fish that estuary there? or do you walk up the beach a bit?

I have a static caravan in Angelsey and ive been here loads on lovely hot sunny days and always fancied chucking my weight in ;)

If people concentrated on the REALLY important things in life....... There would be a shortage of fishing rods and reels

I tend to fish 4 places.... The first, at low, Summer Months being better, is the bend slightly down from the shipwreck (to left as you look), visible from the carpark, accessible by walking across the mud flats with the whitehouse to your left - great for spinnng.

Second - the estuary itself, more or less straight in front of you as you walk up the narrow sandy path with the whitehouse on your right - this is my least favorite spot - not cus of the fishing, its crab and weed infested!

Third and best - At Low, follow the beach a 100 metres and fish off the sandy point, you can imagine there's a channel here as the estuary meets beach proper, dependant on how you cast you can lob left or very slightly right favouring the channel itself . As with the main estuary the weed and crabs can still be an issue but not to unmanageable. Watch the tidal run its fierce and 6oz at least is required - by far the best results here.

Fourth choice and as the tide pushes you off the point preferred over option 2, move to your left onto the beach itself, but not to far and I aim to the left of the sandbank (not on it!) I've just left. This is the most pleasant spot, not to much current, no weed and very few crabs but its a clean sandy bottom and a bit of surf is required. If its a calm day I prefer to shoot down the road a touch to this spot...... http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=sw2bt1 ... %20Kingdom Much deeper water, so more forgiving on casting distance and calmer conditions - easy parking etc....

PM me if you need any more details.....
