Pensarn 25/9/2010

Post by Big Kev »

Finally got round to fishing a spot where i regularly see anglers, and with the recent upturn in bass catches i thought it was worth a shot. Got down to Pensarn by 5pm with Clive and we were soon met by Wildgoose (Paul)...he`s done mainly boat fishing but is getting in to the shore lark now. The breeze was not as strong as forecast, but there was still plenty of life in the sea,so hopes were high....
Parked up at the end of the road by the static vans on the left...

It was a 5 min walk along the road before where we climbed down the rocks and on to the beach...

Lookin good.......
Image
There`s a couple of gullies which i thought would hold bass....you can see the two sand spits where we would be fishing
Image
The water was not too deep as we attempted to cross the first gully, but about 1/3rd of the way across things got very dodgy....the ground soon turned very soft and was difficult to get your feet out.Clive was slightly ahead of me and was doing fine, but i`ve had one or two more keeeebabs than him and coupled with my usual heavy box i was having real trouble keeping my balance....it got to the point were we decided to go back before we got in to real deep mud...it was then that i got stuck :!: :!: No way was i gunna get my feet out without dumping all my gear so Clive got back to the other side and came out to rescue me  Once i had him to lean on i could get my feet out......we were never in danger as the water was`nt deep and the gully was emptying, but it would have been a different story on the flood....goes to show you can never be too careful and how important it is to fish new places with company.
After walking to the left edge of the gully we safely crossed out on to the first spit of sand.
It was quiet early on and we spent time pumping some lug for the session....just as the tide turned my rod was bouncing and i thought i`d got a nice bass...turned out to be a double header with the best one going 2-9-0
Image
Things looked promising and i had a few more good rattles in the first gully but could`nt connect...probably schoolies hitting the bait.
I was very pleased to land this monster and thanked it for wrecking my portsmouth rig
Image
Wildgoose had never had a bass from the shore and thought his luck had changed when he had a fish on....turned out to be a lost codling
Image
Clive was being the nights conservationist :bored:
The big tide meant we had to move back just as the action was getting going, but once the next gully had filled up i had another couple of nice fish....
Image
Image
A better stamp of schoolie compared to Dinas, and a few good bites were missed too.....The Golden Goose rounded off with a slug and at 10pm we called it a night....really enjoyed the session and will return on a smaller tide to get longer fishing in the best gullies.

Nicely done Kev and good result, not the 5 pounder you were hoping for but still, the research and effort payed off - well done.
