Anglesey-Ty Croes (high and low water mark)

Postby Big Kev » Sun Apr 06, 2008 9:59 am

A popular rock venue from early spring and throughout summer, which offers a wide variety of species including, thornback, small eyed and spotted rays, hordes of dogfish, whiting, dabs, pollack, coalfish, conger, huss, rockling, wrasse and mackeral.Fish baits including sand eel, mackeral, launce and squid will take most species...worm is seldom used, unless targeting wrasse when rag is popular.
For the most part, the venue is snag free,as you are casting on to sand. The area to the left towards the kart track is snaggy in parts and as such is favoured for conger fishing.Rays are the target for most people, and up and over or pulley pennel rigs are popular. The slack water periods around low and high water are often most productive.

Getting there....Head along the A55 for Holyhead, then turn off at Junction 5 for Abberffraw (A4080)...follow the signs for the Kart Track...after 15 mins you will pass Cable Bay on your right (large sandy bay between 2 headlands, with a lay by and car parking) then you go uphill and take the turn off on your right (again signposted for the Kart Track)...follow down the narrow lane, over the speed bumps,( See access update in posts below)....you can follow the concrete path on your right which leads to some of the more prolific ray marks.
The Hot Spot.....
Park up by the gate

Walk up to the old barrier and follow the concrete path to the right

Keep following ahead

Near the end bear left towards the sea and you`ll see a warning sign
Image
Stand with your back to the sign and you`ll see a grassy area on your right, which is where you walk down
Image
Then walk over to your left and get up on the rocks
Image
This is the rock you want.....we fished a 30ft tide and it was well clear 3 hours before low...it`s obvious when you see it...very comfortable and fairly flat
Image
The whole area fishes well, but you can`t beat experience, and once you find a productive ray mark, make a note of it ;)

Access Update.................
Due to the work on the Trac Circuit you can no longer drive up to the gate, but there`s a fisherman`s car park which is actually much better. Once turning on to the small country lane for the Trac, you`ll see a small white sign on your left, some 400 yds down the lane, pointing to "Permissive Fisherman`s Car Park".....drive up the ramp and in to the large field just before the first houses....

Image
At the left of the field there`s a large gate with a narrow path at the side....
Image
Just follow the path and it will bring you out on the concrete path which leads to the marks....

Follow the path,as shown in the previous post, down to the small hut and warning sign, which looks like it`s been hit by enemy fire now
