Merseyside----Bromborough (High water mark)

Postby Big Kev » Tue Apr 08, 2008 2:16 pm

A good autumn/winter venue with plenty of whiting and a good chance of codling.Fishing is from a comfortable and spacious platform, though there is no wall/railings so it may not be suitable for very young anglers.Standard beach tackle/rigs are used, along with the usual baits of lug,rag and mack`.Fish are taken at close range,so big casting is`nt an issue.Probably best fished from 3 hours before high water on tides between 27ft - 30ft though neaps and bigger springs will still see fish taken.
Getting There....Follow the A41 until you come to Pool Lane (Village pub on corner)..follow the road for 200yds then at a set of traffic lights turn left on to Dock Road South, after 200yds there is a small area of waste ground on the right of the bend where you can park. You will see the path which leads to the front (less than 100yds walk)
Image

At the end of the path you`ll see a rocky groyne which goes out about 100yds...fish either side, though the left is favoured.

Apparently you can no longer gain access to this mark as it`s been fenced off :-|

Latest info i have for access is....
Parking at the Red Funnel on Magazine Lane(Off Thermal Rd). The right-hand gate is usually closed so you can't drive down to the river, however it has a small permanent opening on one side to give pedestrian access to the river. The walk is about 200 metres.
I very rarely fish this mark,so if in doubt i`d ask on the forum

The entrance is on the left by where the white bags are....thanks to IanK for the pic.....

As with other Mersey marks there is increasing numbers of thornback rays being landed from early spring right through to autumn....distance casting appears to improve your chances, though fish are still taken closer in....clipped down pennels/up n overs/dropper rigs with 2/0 or 3/0 hooks are popular...usual ray baits of squid/mack/bluey/sandeel on their own or in various combinations will do the trick.
