it would depend how you wanted to "play" the fish a 2.5 TC would give a great bend to the rod where as a 3lb TC would just bully it in

Theres plenty of 30s with in a hours drive from liverpool ;)

Id suggest a 2.75lb tc rod, light enough to to enjoy a fight yet a bit of extra backbone to help 'control' fish away from snaggy areas, anything over is unsporting

Down south I used to catch 30's on 6lb line and 1 1/2 TC. We could because we had plenty of clear water to play the fish in. And the light rod acted as a shock obsorber for the light line. Don't supose you want to share the location of this water? :D ;) ;) ;)

there are ones 15mins from my house in lower ridge fishery and psac waters

i have never had a 30ish fish that hasnot snapped me at the landing net. my biggest is 24lb carp. i had it on a 2.75lb test 18lb line you could prob go down to a lighter line but i was fishing in a foot of water with alot of weed.

Make sure you have a bait runner as when i caught mine in holland on the canal it pulled my rod straight in and i had to go in after it luckily the fish was still on.

tight lines JT
