Wirral Pike Fishing

Postby dava_c » Tue Apr 07, 2009 1:54 pm

Can anybody suggest any places in the Wirral where I can fish for Pike using Pugs/lures/spinners?

I am keen to catch a pike using this method, but I am more of a regular sea fisherman and am a bit clueless when it comes to freshwater!!!!

You could try the Shroppy between Ellesmere Port Boat Museum and Chester Zoo... no monsters in there but enough little essox to tug on your lure.

Don't forget your rod licence ;)

Woodslee Pond in Brotherton Park Bromborough has pike in. need AWAC card (tackle shops) or be affiliateed through a local club. Lost one about lb the other day using a Mepps Ferox type lure. big flashy silver blade and dressed with red wool. Only the one take in a 2hr spinning plugging session.

yes, i caught a pike of about 2lb in that pond about 5 years ago. i was float fishing with maggots very close in (under the overhanging trees) for a couple of hours with no bites. I went to pull in the line to head off and it suddenly went tight and the fish headed off across the other side of the pond....after a couple of minutes i landed the pike and the hook was almost straightened in the bottom of the fishes jaw, i assume it was swimming past and i foul hooked it as i struck in frustration to pull the line in!!

i can't imagine there is a large population of pike in that pond given its very small size!?!

The Shroppy is your best bet as Prawster says. You ould also try with small mepps blades for the large perch in the overflow at the end of the docks in Poulton/wallesey.
Tight lines, Karl......
