SUMMER LEAGUE 2005 DETAILS OF EVENTS

Postby LOL » Fri Jan 21, 2005 10:25 pm

Last year wsfa ran its first summer league and to continue on the theme from last year WSF will be running a summer league.
The league will be run over 4 matches taking place in North Wales.
The overall winner of the league will take the summer league shield for one year.(its a fantastic shield with your name on)

Each of the four matches will be run at venues offering different syles of fishing and will have a different theme to them :)

Points will be awarded as in past leagues 10 for 1st ,9 for 2nd and so on down to 10th place. for entering 1 point is awarded.

The entry fee is £5 per match

prize money paid to the top three anglers (no role over)

( full rule info will be posted in the next week)

MATCH 1......................................................................

FLINT Sunday 3rd April 2005 fishing 3.30pm to 7.30 pm

This match will be run as a standard weigh in match based on heaviest bag
The most common speices expected will be flounder :)

MATCH 2.....................................................................

PWLLHELI Saturday 21st May 2005 fishing 4.00pm to 8.30pm

This match will be something new to wsf and will be run as a catch and release with a point system based on the species caught

6 points for a ray
4 points for a bream
2 point for a dogfish
1 point for all other spiecies

highest number of points wins and multiples of the same species are allowed e.g 3 rays is 18points

weather permitting it is intended to provide food before this match more details to follow :D

MATCH 3.......................................................................

HOLLYHEAD BREAKWATER saturday 2nd july 4.30pm till 9.30pm

This match will again be a catch and release match
It will be run as a species hunt but with a twist

1 point will be awarded for each species caught

If you catch more than one of any species you still only get on point for that species

The twist is that on the day some target fish will be nominated and additional points will be awarded..........eg 2lb wrasse 5points, 2lb pollock 5 points

We will also allow float fishing at this match

again we intend to provide food before the match.

MATCH 4................................................................................

RHOSCOLYN ANGLESEY Sunday 17th july 11.30am to 3.30 pm

This match is the rock hoppers match. The venue is a comfortable mark for a rock mark ;)

It will be measure and release

all fish will count and match will be won on the total length of fish caught.

again float fishing will be allowed

this is a very nice venue and a wrasse and pollock hot spot :D

To Sum up

The finer point of the rules will be posted soon

The purpose of the league is for us all to have a bit of fun and experience different syles of matches at different venues which will require different fishing methods.

the two saturday matches will be special with the food and banter and wil suit those wishing to have a weekend in wales fishing

we have kept the entry fee low just to give us that bit of competition that keeps everyone trying until the end of the match.

With only a four match league it means that it will not be taking over everyones fishing plans for the summer

Hopefully we will get the support we have had in the past and i look forward to a good set of matches

:D :D :D :D :D

Ahoy there :D The Winter league is the main competitive event, which will once again be an open league,so anyone and everyone is welcome to fish it.The final dates/times will be posted soon,so any interested clubs, can arrange their dates around it,and incorporate their club leagues into it,which gives you the opportunity of winning some dosh, and still having your own club league ;)

cliff we will be unlikley to get the numbers of a big match and last summer the stewards often weighed fish during the match :)

we know the main spiecies will be flounder and there is no reason why anglers can not keep them a live until they are weighed thats what i have always done (it keeps their weight up ;) )

as for eating them who said we can't ;)

steve the wsf league is open to all its not a club event
As for a merseyside league with all the clubs involved its not really for me to decide but its not something i personnally would be interested in i just want a few fun matches during the summer to get me out to wales with the other site members

Just a thought, but is a "Rock hopping" venue the right place to have a catch & release match, I have never seen/fished at the venue, but if you have to have fish witnessed by another angler, going to be a bit awkward moving back and forward over rocks especially if they are wet

Like I say just a thought, and again I have never seen/fished there
Have I ever told you how much I hate Flounder fishing.........................................................................................thought so

The summer league is not my baby :D Myself and Chris are sorting the winter league,so LOL can answer questions on this one ;)
Different venues and match formats are a good way of influencing fishing tactics, and making anglers think differently, which can only be of benefit.
One point i would like to make,is about the Pwllheli match....dogs count for 2 points, but if someone manages to snare the likes of a scabby old bass, they only get 1 point

ok a few answers

lets be clear there is no way on earth i can put a league together that will please everyone and i did not intend to try the format of the league is there to give us some variety :)

the rock mark chosen is ideal for catch and release as its basically several sets of fishable marks which will accomadate several anglers on each area (we may even be drawing zones so its mixes us all up)

there will be no running around to get fish verified as several anglers will be right next to you to do the job.

if its wet we will not be there anyway as we have a blow of venue ;)

kev the Pwllheli match is really a ray and bream match I have given top points to ray as thats the main target one of the downsides of targeting rays with fish baits is dogs can get there first but to encourage people to keep trying for rays you get 2 points for dogs.

anyone can catch a bass anyway can't they
