Longest Specimen Fish Pool...........Adam Roper - Flounder 40cm........74 Points (£13)

So this years WSF Summer League came to a wild and windy conclusion at Caldy on the banks of the Dee estuary. Bass were the bonus species for this match and a number of reports of them being taken at the mark recently filled the lads with some optimism as well as the knowledge that the resident Flounder should also be present.

Everyone got set up and we made our way out onto the sand ready for the off.........................

Image

Stu Davies and Paul Tucker were both into fish first cast whilst the water was still way out. Stu took a small Flounder and Paul took this Plaice to open his account for the day...................

Image

The tide was now quickly flooding over the sand so everyone made their way back to and up onto the rocks for the flood. With the wind howling up the estuary there was quite a swell on this probably impacted the fishing on reflection given the shallow water however there were still a few fish to be taken. Ste Trish got in on the action with a double shot of Flounder.........................

Image

I then found my first and fish of the session in the form of this nice specimen of 40cm which was enough for me to take the longest specimen fish pool on the day.........................

Image

I took another one next cast but managed to drop it down one of the many gaps in the rocks before I could measure it. Occupational hazard at this venue.

Roy Schofield had taken two fish to this point and when the bites dried up for everyone else around 30 minutes before high water he continued to do what he has done all summer and put fish on the bank when others couldn't.........................

Image

Roy took another two Flounder over high and into the ebb to give himself 4 fish and fittingly and deservedly give himself the match win in the final round of what has undoubtedly been his summer league.
