Longest Specimen Fish Pool - Paul Tucker - Flounder 74 points (£17)

Round for saw us back on the Mersey at the Rock Channel yet again in search of Smooth Hound as the bonus species for this match. The weather was absolutely scorching and there was not a breath of wind in the air which coupled with the gin clear water meant conditions were looking difficult. Never the less we all assembled on the prom and waited for the tide to ebb........................

We all waited to cross the gully and make our way out onto the bank. A few people had discussed and decided to stay short whilst the rest would make the normal walk up and along the bank to the first bend and beyond......................

All in was called and we were underway and as suspected there was a distinct lack of activity on the rod tips with the first 90 minutes seeing baits coming back untouched and absolutely no sign of any Smooth Hounds showing it was clear this one was going to be a war of attrition.

As the ebb slackened off the smaller species finally began to feed however the bites were still sporadic at best and anyone finding a few fish would be right in the mix for the win. Rob Turner was finding Whiting and Dabs to set the pace with Roy Schofield and myself also ticking cards over with Whiting Dabs and Gurnard.

There was the odd couple of decent fish with Paul Tucker taking a Flounder of 40cm to take the longest specimen fish pool and also this nice Plaice of 36cm for Wayne Kirby.............................

As low water approached the bites again dried up and disappeared however Rob Turner was able to find a couple more fish in the last hour to keep his excellent recent run up and take the win from Roy Schofield in second.

Its now a quick turnaround as we head to Pwllheli this weekend for Round 5.

Bet it would of fished it's oops off on a later tide. I fished the high after the match and the bites didn't stop coming (ran out of bait). A special thanks to Stu Davies giving me two blacks to try and catch something.. last cast saved the blank!

Hats off to everyone it was an unusually slow day

Tough day at the office but condition like that often separate the men from the boys so to speak. Well done to those that found fish
