The attendance at this years WSF Winter League has been really strong with all but the last match seeing 20+ anglers in the field with 4 matches seeing over 25+ anglers competing for their share of the money as well as points for the overall title. This has made for an exciting and compelling series of matches with plenty of different anglers getting in the prize money as well as some good consistent angling throughout the league from those at the top of the leaderboard.

As is now tradition we retired to the Egremont Ferry pub for the meal and presentation.........................

So after the full series of 8 matches this is how the top three finished.................

In third place in this years Winter League with a final haul of 287cm for 40 points after returning to sea fishing after a 10 year break was Stu Baker.....................

Image

Second place in this years Winter League finishing stongly in the final round to get into the runners up place with a final total of 302cm for 41 Points was Dave Roberts.................

Image

This years winner of the WSF Winter League with a total of 322cm for 49 Points is Paul Tucker. Paul has been incredibly consistent in large fields of anglers and is a very well deserving champion. Well done and well fished Paul..................

There were then a final couple of trophies to present to finish the 2017 year off the first of which was the WSF Cod Trophy for the longest Codling in this years Winter League and this years winner was Graeme Stuart with his cracking 60cm fish from Round 2 at Otterspool. Well done Graeme your trophy is waiting for you when you get back from your holiday.

Finally that left the now annual presentation of the Specimen Trophy kindly donated and presented by Richie Fisher and the 2017 winner was GaZ Taylor. Well deserved and well done Gazzer...............

To finish off I would just like to say thank you to all those who have fished and supported the Winter League this year and I hope to see you all plus some more new faces at the WSF Summer League 2018 in May.

Great report as usual Adam.

Big thanks to yourself for arranging the matches and venues, and Brian and the two Dave's for what was outstanding fresh bait on all of the matches

The turn-outs reflect how well run the league has been and hopefully we may see even more in forthcoming leagues

Looking forward to the summer league in May and next years winter league
Only here for the cod!

Heaps of praise for Adam for his dedication to the leagues,as they are a headache to organise at times, and take up a lot of spare time doing the reports and leaderboards e.t.c. Full marks to everyone who turned out to make the league such a success, especially the lads on the podium....Paul,Dave n Stu had great consistency throughout....well done on the specimen trophy too Gazz, and many thanks to Ken (Prescot Angling For All Your Angling Needs) for his continued sponsorship....hopefully there will be a good turn out for the summer league.

Well done to all the winners especially Paul for his overall win
I only fished one match but was impressed by how it was run and a good bunch of lads too. So well done to Adam Roper on the time and dedication he must put in to run such a good league. I know how hard it must be and how much time and effort has to be put in. 8)

Concur with all the above comments. Superbly run and organised with quality bait.
Fished far less than I anticipated but enjoyed the few I did compete in. Well done to all trophy winners.
Look forward to having a bash at the summer league.
