Longest Fish Pool..............Jordan Roberts - 48cm Thornback Ray

So Round 3 was supposed to see us at Perch Rock however when I arrived to see what the weather was doing it turned out to be worst than forecast with a howling Northerly hammering into everyone's faces in the car park. This was enough for me to revert to plan B so I made the call to move the match to Vale Park where there would be a little more shelter from the wind and also allow anglers to fish with their backs directly into the wind.

Another good turnout for this round with 21 anglers all jumping back in their cars and shooting over to Vale Park where we all got suited up and got down onto the prom for the team photo..................

Image

We all got down onto the beach once the wind against tide situation eventually allowed us to and we got underway later than planned at 10:00. The weather then took a turn for the worse with the howling wind being joined by rain which then turned to hailstones. Undeterred everyone cracked on and waited for the fish to show................

Image

Despite the conditions there were plenty of fish on the feed and plenty of people took fish on their first casts including Stu Baker who took a cracking Plaice of 37cm. Sadly Stu didn't get a picture of the fish before returning it however this had set a high bar for the flat fish side of the scorecard.

I then got a decent pull down which resulted in this nice Thornback Ray of 44cm...................

Image

At 11:00 everyone stopped for a minute to remember along with many others up on the promenade.................

Image

A few people were taking decent Whiting however the Dogfish were nowhere to be seen until Ste Atkinson managed to find one which would turn out to be the only one taken all match. Yet again the in size Dabs were proving hard to find however a few people were getting two fish on their cards. This would mean it was going to come down to the quality of the combination people had in terms of their flat and round fish.

Jordan Roberts then put himself out in front taking a better Ray of 48cm....................

Image

He quickly followed this up with a Dab of 26cm to set the marker for everyone else to beat with an hour to go. I could not better my 25cm Dab which meant it was going to come down to Stu Baker and Wayne Kirby to try and catch Jordan Roberts. Stu could only find a 33cm Whiting to go with his Plaice and Wayne Kirby added a cracking Dab of 32cm to go with his Whiting of 38cm however neither would be enough to deny Jordan Roberts a well deserved win on what was a challenging day conditions wise. We now move straight on to Round 4 at Perch Rock next week.

Well done on the win Jordan  Top dangling!

How snaggy was it there today? Were many rigs lost?
