Specimen Fish Pool - Dave Radcliffe...........Flounder 37cm

Round 7 saw us back at Greenfield on the Dee in search of Plaice as the bonus species. Hopes were high after the match last year which produced plenty of fish and a few different species too. 13 Anglers made the trip for this one and here is how they lined up.....................

Graeme Stuart was back for this one...............

Image

Followed by Dale Edwards..................

Image

Wayne Kirby was next up..................

Image

Andy Wilmore was next man up......................

Image

Roy Schofield had just been piped ashore from his yacht which was now anchored in the harbour...................

Image

Paul Argent had already been out in the morning and was looking for more action......................

Image

League leader Dave Radcliffe was next..........................

Image

Followed by Dave Roberts.......................

Image

Jeff White was ready to go......................

Image

Rob Turner was next in line.....................

Image

Gary Swift was armed for action................

Image

Last man up was Dylan Kensall...................

Image

We fished the to the right of the harbour and the boundaries were set at the two points at either end of the bay. Everyone made their way safely down to a suitable perch to set up camp for the next four hours. All in came round and we were underway....................

Image

The tidal pull was really strong from the off however it did not stop fish from feeding immediately, unfortunately they were all eels! I took a double shot first cast and right along the line the rod tips were bouncing and time after time the eels were the culprit.

As they did not count in the match this meant that anyone that could find any other species would be in pole position to take the match. League leader Dave Radcliffe was on the point nearest to the harbour and after an hour of eel bashing along with everyone else he decided on a change of tactics and flicked a light watch lead into the bay to the left and out of the flow. This proved to be a great decision and these tactics saw him take three Flounders in four casts from the shallow muddy water whilst everyone else stood and watched!

Image

Up and over water the eels gave up the ghost and disappeared which meant all went quiet. Everyone was now fishing for second place and Roy Schofield did what no one else could do and found a solitary Whiting to get himself in the points and onto the board.

The last half hour was completely fruitless for everyone and that was that. A bit of a grueller but a match which saw Dave Radcliffe take a big step towards the overall title and Roy Schofield put himself right back in contention too.

We now move quickly on to Talacre this coming Sunday for Round 8.

Whoever runs the matches will never please everyone with the venues they choose....some like a change of scenery and if that particular venue fishes well,as Caldy and Greenfield have in the past,it will compensate for the lack of comfort....the proms will no doubt feature in the winter league, which are great for the majority of anglers, but are my idea of hell...i`m determined to fish the winter league this year,so i`ll just have to accept there`ll be venues that don`t suit me.

I'm lighter than I look ..... honest! :D
